BELGRADE (Reuters) - A commercial promoting Serbia as a tourist destination appears to be jinxed after CNN used the soundtrack for a Kazakh tourism ad as backing music by mistake.

The “Serbia - Moments to Remember” commercial was widely pilloried at home as being boring and misleading for showing Serbia as a land of rolling hills, churches and nature reserves full of wildlife, but apparently devoid of people.

Serb viewers also spotted that one medieval church featured prominently in the ad was not in fact Serbian but Romanian, on the wrong side of the Danube river on Serbia’s eastern border.

The campaign is the first major effort to change the world’s view of Serbia since the end of the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s

Officials said they will edit the commercial to highlight the fun side of Serbia, including the vibrant cafe culture and nightlife of the capital Belgrade.

They said CNN had agreed to extend the life of the ad to make up for their mistake with the Kazakh folk music.

Qantas jet lands safety after engine emergency

Qantas 747 jet headed from Sydney to Los Angeles has arrived safely back at Sydney Airport after performing an emergency landing.

It is believed the plane had an engine surge over Sydney’s Northern Beaches after a compressor in the number three engine blew out.

The pilot had to turn the plane around and head out to sea so it could dump some fuel to drop enough weight to land safely.

Qantas says the plane will be inspected tomorrow and the 274 passengers will be flown to their destination by a replacement plane due to leave later tonight.

Engine problem forces Qantas 747 to return to Sydney

A Qantas flight with 274 passengers on board has been forced to dump fuel and will return to Sydney Airport.

The Boeing 747 was on its way from Sydney to Los Angeles, and had travelled only as far as Sydney’s northern beaches, when it is believed a compressor blew out in one of the engines.

The pilot turned around the plane and headed to sea so it could safely dump some fuel.

Qantas says the jet will return to Sydney Airport before 2:15pm AEDT, when it has dropped enough weight to land safely, and the passengers will be allowed to disembark.

Qantas plane forced back to Sydney

A Qantas airliner has suffered a mid-air engine problem forcing it to double back to Sydney airport.

The troubled Boeing 747 plane, loaded with passengers, is yet to reach the airport but a company spokesman has denied it needs to make an emergency landing.

“It is not an emergency landing, but it will be returning to Sydney,” the spokesman said.

He also denied reports that an engine on the plane had exploded mid-air.

“No it hasn’t exploded at all, so there is an issue with the engine but it hasn’t exploded,” the spokesman said.

At 12.35pm (AEDT) the plane had not yet landed.

There are also reports the plane was dumping fuel over the Sydney suburb of Frenchs Forest.
